Citizen's Academy Graduation 2008

The 2008 Class of the Anson County Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Citizens Academy graduated April 24th, with 23 participants.  This was the sixth Citizens Academy class to graduate.  During the eight week class that met each Thursday from 6:00 to 9:00pm, the students participated in a number of events such as a tour of the Sheriff’s Offices, Magistrate Office, Jail and 911 Emergency Communication Center.  They heard presentations from the Sheriff, Detectives, FBI, Secret Service, Alcohol Law Enforcement, Clerk of Court, District Court Judge, Probation and Parole.  They saw presentations on illegal drugs, crime scene investigations and the new “Live Scan Finger Printing Device.”  Participants went to the Sheriff’s firing range and saw various weapons demonstrated as well as fire weapons themselves.  They saw a K-9 demonstration; a Taser demonstration, a SWAT Team demonstration and saw a variety of vehicles and equipment used by the Sheriff’s Office.  In addition to all this, each member of the class was offered to be a part of the Sheriff’s “Ride-Along” programs and actually road with a deputy on a night’s shift.

The Citizens Academy is sponsored annually by the Sheriff’s Office for individuals interested in learning more about how law enforcement works in Anson County.  To attend the Academy, individuals must have a good character and reputation; pass a background check; be at least 18 years of age and of good health.

The next Citizens Academy (Class Number 7) is scheduled to begin in March of 2009.  More details for this Academy will be published early next year.
