Enforcement
Citizens
Academy
graduated April 24th, with 23 participants.
This was the sixth Citizens Academy
class to graduate. During the eight
week class that met each Thursday from 6:00 to 9:00pm, the students participated
in a number of events such as a tour of the Sheriff’s Offices, Magistrate
Office, Jail and 911 Emergency Communication Center.
They heard presentations from the Sheriff, Detectives, FBI, Secret
Service, Alcohol Law Enforcement, Clerk of Court, District Court Judge,
Probation and Parole. They saw
presentations on illegal drugs, crime scene investigations and the new “Live
Scan Finger Printing Device.”
Participants went to the Sheriff’s firing range and saw various weapons
demonstrated as well as fire weapons themselves.
They saw a K-9 demonstration; a Taser demonstration, a SWAT Team
demonstration and saw a variety of vehicles and equipment used by the Sheriff’s
Office. In addition to all this,
each member of the class was offered to be a part of the Sheriff’s “Ride-Along”
programs and actually road with a deputy on a night’s shift.
The Citizens
Academy is sponsored annually by the
Sheriff’s Office for individuals interested in learning more about how law
enforcement works in Anson
County.
To attend the Academy, individuals must have a good character and
reputation; pass a background check; be at least 18 years of age and of good
health.
The next Citizens Academy
(Class Number 7) is scheduled to begin in March of 2009.
More details for this Academy will be published early next year.
